Glad to see this in substack. I am active in the Regenerate Cascadia bioregional work. Just attended a workshop from the Design School to Regenerate Earth that is developing this innovated infrastructure for funding. I urge folks to check out the resources listed in post. A really dynamic international community is emerging around this.
I'm so happy this article landed in my inbox today! Thank you for your fantastic description of what it is, why it's so important, and where to find more information.
As it happens, I live in Asheville and am currently catalyzing "Regenerating Asheville" ~ a bioregional movement utilizing much of the BioFi Project framework. This movement is emerging at warp speed with jaw-dropping synchronicities and off-the-chart resonance in the people who are now finding each other (locally & globally), all of whom know the valuable piece we are each bringing in service of the shared vision of landing a regenerative ecosystem model right here right now ~ one that can and will be shared with the world as a living demonstration of what's possible when we come together in a coherent whole-systems way to bring more life and thriving to all life in a bioregion.
So happy to hear this. My prayers are with Asheville's regeneration. Feel free to connect with me on linkedin to share practical resources/contacts. =)
Great to find this. Thank you. Still absorbing but I would like to extend an invitation: If you or someone you recommend might be willing to articulate and discuss this next year in a conversation for the Desirable Unknown section of on Love and Philosophy, I would love to connect, say more about the project, and share. L&P has about 60k subscribers on YT so it may be a good way to build more community on this. From my side, it would be good for me to find some practical ways to consider ideas I'm working on regarding my philosophical work in urban development. Warmest, Andrea https://www.youtube.com/@waymaking23
Felix, great essay on bioregionalism and the importance of place in addressing our broken systems. Thanks for the list of resources, too! My work and writing align with what you have so well explained. www.connectedtoplace.com
Forthcoming book- Connected to Place: Changing Systems and How We Live to Regenerate Nature, Community and Local Economies (Cornell University Press)
Hi Matt. Thanks for your words. I'm curious to learn about the specifics of your work, and how are the types of players you are most interested in interacting with.
Why say must. Why not go somewhere and do it? I have redesigned river harbors, have lectured about island economies, have built new business models and new tax systems. Built healthy buildings and knotted eveything together. And now, in my last 9 years, I build my magnus opus. One big peninsula in Greece. Peloponnese. Our newest Blue Zone in the world. Where 1:3 people live to become 100+ without chronic disease. Nike says it beautifully. Just do it!
what do you want to know? In short I have been part of and initiating many bioregionalizing and nature-based solutions projects projects around the world in the past 12 years (busy since 2012). And now we bring everything together in my persoanl Magnum Opus bioregion. Peloponnese, Greece. Attracting interconnected projects to land here in the hope to make a Blue Zone out of the whole peninsula. I’ve been on and off for months on this peninsula since 2016, are the co-founder wiht a Greek woman (I’m Dutch myself) of Peloponnese Living (also Facebook Group with 62K+ followers, so that gives us leverage with gov, we are a small virtual city), fill the off-season for the SMEs, teach them how to work together and earn more without driving prices up (I’m an economist), and starting big ecology projects with some mates. I write about it to inspire others. That’s me. Anyone can do it… I teach in education now and have my hands in the soil and snorkle in the sea… I focus on Blue Economy, coastal areas, managing tourist economies. Mediation, simple explaining, and communication design is the biggest success factor, I guess. Fail factors are govs, rigid laws, and lack of integrated design skills.

I think we're on the same page. Saying "must" is my way of encouraging us all to do it. Any info about your Greek project?
